The hidden lake
Ziros lake is located 2 km west of the provincial road Arta – Filippiada – Ioannina.
Geologists believe that the lake was actually a cave before the roof of it collapsed (about 10,000 years ago).
The lake is located at an altitude of 40 meters, between high hills with steep slopes and its depth is 70 m.
It is surrounded by an oak forest, plane and elm trees.
Mythology holds a particular myth about the creation of the lake. According to the myth, two sisters, one rich and one poor, argued with each other because the children of the poor sister ate the leftovers of the rich one. Finally, the two sisters were split and the poor one immigrated to the mountain. Then an angel was presented and told her not to go back to see the disaster because she would turn into a pillar of salt.
